Within the Living - La Madre Amazonas, Site Specific Artwork, Experimental

This body of work developed during a period of sustained immersion in the Amazon. The focus was not to depict the jungle, but to experience it directly and allow that experience to inform process.

Spending a month within this environment altered my perception of scale, time, and relation. The forest operates as a layered system — growth and decay occurring simultaneously, closeness and openness coexisting. Nothing functions independently.

This structure resonated with my ongoing exploration of layering as both material method and conceptual framework. In this context, layering was experiential and observable. The environment itself exists as accumulated presence.

The pace of time felt cyclical rather than linear. Processes unfold continuously, without emphasis on beginning or end. This understanding shaped my approached composition and spatial balance.

Colour was encountered differently. The landscape appears as tonal variations of earthly greens and browns. Sustained attention revealed moments of saturation- reds, yellows, blues, and purples - appear from the density of the forest. Neither variation dominated; both existed in precise alignment.

This perceptual attunement informed the work. I became attentive to subtle variation and interdependence. Forms were considered in relation to a broader field. Each element participated.

Here, recognition comes from oneself as part of a larger living system.
