the boy and the heron

The Other Art Fair, The Truman Brewery, London

2024

This collection came from the inspiration of exploring different dynamics that we encounter in this life, friends, family, relationships etc and to use forms more abstract to the human mind in this experimentation. To be able to observe the dynamic through colour, shape, form and texture rather than through attachment to the visual language that we already know and attach many other meanings to.

The main large piece was created as one large 3 meter print inspired by the philosophical ideas around androgynous energy. Cut down the middle to interchange the dynamic of female and the masculine counterparts. Exploring how to see the manifestation of two parts as whole and harmoniously in an interweaving dynamic as one and different.

Cutting this work into two was to make the separation between the two parts to see them as individuals in terms of their language, form and what they emanate. Whilst at the same time visually seeing how they are also similar and compliment one another through the interweaving forms, colours and the central cut where the lines match and connect.

Its interesting to observe how in all configurations, they compliment one another. Together, individually and switched around.

The smaller pieces came from the same conceptual idea however these ones had less of a relation to masculine/feminine energy and more to dynamic in space through the conversations between the shapes, forms, colours and positioning.

I found the smaller pieces to be an expansion of dynamics because the pieces were expanding from 2 parts into 3 and 4 which brought a lot more elements and ideas to consider into the equation.
